Vinoscenti Vineyards Joie de Vivre Painting Series
In 2018, Vinoscenti Vineyards located in Surrey, BC sponsored Western Canada’s largest painting competition with prizes worth $3,000. The winery owners approached the Arts Council of Surrey to co-ordinate, adjudicate, and hold the plenary session for the artists. Artists were restricted to 15 in total number and the selection was based on the works they produced. Selected artists were invited to the winery for a welcoming session and this allowed the owners to share their vision for the winery, the community, and the wines.
The artists are all Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Their backgrounds were as diverse from professional painters, to housewives, students, and enthusiasts as they were geographically from China to Mexico and as far as the Ukraine. The final decision was made by a panel of three judges comprising the two owners of the business and one of the Council members from the City of Surrey. Prizes were awarded for third, second, and first prize with each winner receiving prizes and additionally their painting would be used as one of our wine labels.
The wines were made and bottled this year (2020) and hence the “Joie de Vivre” series begins. The one owner of the winery studied in France for four years and was influenced by the imagery and life of “Joie de Vivre” meaning the Joy of Life.
Hence the name of the series and the naming of the wines. JOY, PEACE, HAPPINESS, and EN – “JOY”
